Kobuk Valley: A Monty Python of seasons

If you have ever seen Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail there is a scene where it says “A year passed: winter changed into spring, spring changed into summer, summer changed back into winter, and winter gave spring and summer a miss and went straight on into autumn...'

The Arctic is kind of like that winter is very long. Summer isn’t as long as winter, but it is certainly a distinct season. Fall, on the other hand, is a complete blip. The tundra changes from green to vibrant yellows, oranges and reds and then it is gone. The change happens quickly, like in a matter of weeks.

We were lucky enough to hit Kobuk Valley during this very very brief season change and it was extraordinarily beautiful. I wanted to include a gallery of photos of the color change just to show you how amazing it is. Enjoy!
