July 20th, 2016 brings us 36-days away from the National Park Service Centennial. In this edition of the #CentennialCountdown we go back 36-years to 1980 when we had a whole slew of parks created including Biscayne National Park, Channel Islands National Park, Gates of the Arctic National Park, Glacier Bay National Park, Katmai National Park, Kenai Fjords National Park, Kobuk Valley National Park, Lake Clark National Park, Wrangell St Elias National Park, Aniakchak, Ice Age National Scenic Trail, James Garfield National Historic Site, Kalaupapa National Historic Park, Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park, MLK National Historic Site, Overmountain Victory National Historic Site, USS Arizona Memorial, Yukon Charley River
All of the Alaska national parks were created, because on November 2nd the Alaska Natural Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA) passed congress. Less well known is the fact that many Alaskan's were against the idea of National Parks and created an organization called Alaskan's Unite. Here is one of the signs we saw outside Wrangell St.Elias
