July 1st, 2016 brings us 55-days away from the National Park Service Centennial. In this edition of the #CentennialCountdown we go back 55-years to 1961 and the separation of Haleakala National Park from Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
On September 13th, 1960 the Senate and House of Representatives established that Haleakala National Park on Maui would be created as a separate park from Hawai'i National Park effective July 1st, 1961.
