Lassen Volcanic was a park that I had heard of, but was not necessarily on the list of parks that I was really really excited about. I went into it without that high of expectations and it absolutely blew me away. It has the largest group of hydrothermal features west of Yellowstone with Bumpass Hell.
There are also 4-types of volcanoes present in Lassen, we hiked one of each type. There are the remnants of a composite volcano that exploded, eight plug dome volcanoes, five shield volcanoes and five cinder cones. The second picture below is one of Lassen Peak at 10,457 feet tall it is one of the largest plug dome volcanoes in the world. We hiked up there for a sunrise and were covered in the lenticular cloud that you can see in the photo.
Lassen is nearest to Crater Lake, Redwoods and Yosemite so I think that it sometimes get forgotten in the mix, but make no mistake this is a park that you need to see.
